Round 1 Update
Congratulations to the young boys for a great team effort during our first game.
Although South Melbourne jumped us in the first quarter, we had a solid
second half with a great around team effort to keep South from getting
away. Congratulation to the boys who won the Courage, Hard work, Team
Spirit & Determination awards. Great game by Tristan, Bailey,
Riley, Tyrone, Tyren, Mitchell, Ruley and Tristan O'Neill This was our first game with a
young team and we can all hold our heads high after a spirited
performance to build on for a great year. Goals Scorers:
Tristan Brunning 2 Big thanks to Cameron, Chris, Colin and the Pavouris family for all
their help on match day. Big Thanks to Karen & Trent Ross for the help
pre game with the clean up and for the red & white Balloons and lollies
for the kids Training is on Wednesday as usual, please try
your hardest to get to training as our skills and team work is
continually improving with a focus this week on match drills.
Round 2 Update Well another great
game although the score board didn't explain the way we played.
Our run at the ball was sensational although when you have the whole 18
players chasing the ball makes it a bit hard.
It was a great team effort but we have a lot of work to do mainly to
work as a team but the hard work, the boys are doing on the day is very
rewarding.
Our team is quite small with a couple of 6 year olds filling up some
positions which is very encouraging.
Well done to Nicolas in kicking his first goal in football, another big
congratulations to Tyren and Tristan Brunning for a joint win for the
"ANZAC day" medal.
Round 3 Update
3rd May Sunday vs St Pauls
With an awesome start they broke carefully with the first score but we
were able to match them with a goal in the first quarter to Nicholas and
a minor score to Riley and Marchello.
After a great overhead mark, Tristan B kicked an intense second goal to
bring the scores even at half time.
We had great run out of the centre thanks to Ruley, Riley, Nicholas,
Bailey, Tristan and Tyren.
AN EXCELLENT HALF to James, Luc, Nathan W running hard with their heads
over the ball.
St Pauls kicked away in the 3rd Quarter but we held our ground in the
last quarter to keep them from scoring and with Tristan B kicking his
second goal to reduce the margin to 10 pints.
A great effort by the boys making all the parents and the coach proud
and showing a win is just around the corner.
Round 4 Update Mothers Day saw the
gallant under 9's take on some friends and foes at Waverley Hawks. The
boys played magnificently with the ever smiling Nicholas kicking his
first bag of 3 goals.
Congratulations to Bailey Thompson on a superb first goal after pass
from a courageous mark running back wards with the flight of the ball by
James O'Neill.
Another superb game from Riley, Ruley, Mitch, Tyrone and Tyren and a
great first effort from Justin Chung.
While we fell short by the narrowest of margins, the boys can sniff a
win is just around the corner and all the mums and dads could not be
prouder than the effort put in by the boys.
Round 5 Update What a game>What
an absolute ripper of a GAME!! coming off from a 1 point loss last week
to stepping it up and to come through with a really good win with
Nicholas kicking 6 goals,Tristan kicking 4 goals, James and Bailey
kicking 1 goal each.
Really good effort to Conner for kicking 2 points in his first game
with us. Great effort and welcome.
Great effort by Riley, Nathan P, Nathan W and Tristan O'Neill marking
strongly and Ashton nearly running his legs off his own body.
Tyrone Wilson was good playing up the ground and Tyren running strong
in to the forward line.
A great win and a brave effort to the whole team. big thanks.
Round 6 Update With Murrumbeena a
very tall side they got the jump on us with the first 2 goals of the
game .Our backline with Tyrone, Tristan O'Neill and Nathan Pavouris
stopping some crucial scoring from the opposition. Second quarter was
better with Ruley, Riley, Nicholas and Tristan B kicking our first goal
for the game.
Murrumbeena were a bit quicker at getting the ball than our boys at
times, but Mitch, Jasper, Nathan W and Zac soon put a stop to that
with there courage and determination at the ball. Nicholas also fought
hard with kicking a goal and then another in the last quarter and little
Ashton kicking a point which brought great happiness to the team.
James O'Neill fought hard on the wing not only his second and third
efforts but his fourth and fifth efforts at the ball. (awarded best
visiting player by Murrumbeena) Great team effort a shame about the
outcome on the score board not reflecting our effort
Round 7 Update Sunday 31/5/09 vs.
East Brighton colts........today brought our first game under lights due
to heavy fog. I would have to say beautiful football coming out of the
middle with Bailey, riley, Tristan B and Ruley also supporting along
side was Nicolas and Tyrone offering plenty of support, but with Tyren
really aggressive at the ball and kicking our first goal and first for
the game.
With most of our back men getting lost in he fog we still fought hard
in the second with Tristan B kicking our second goal. Jasper, James and
Marcello provided plenty of help getting into our forward line and
helping Connor, Luc and Cooper to get a couple of minor scores and to
come in at half time in front. Well after half time the fog had lifted
and so did they wining most of the centre breaks, they slapped on a few
goals and put them in front but as tough as Northvale 9's are we didn't
stop. Nicolas kicking 1 goal kept our spirits high. James, Riley and
Tristan kept pushing despite the score and battled hard. Full credit
to our backline and well done to Tyrone, Nathan P Tristan ON and Ashton
to keep hold and stop a lot of scoring.
I think our back men found some holes that were getting dug in the
first half but soon climbed out of them to keep going till the final
siren.......bad luck boys but we live to fight another
day...........................................
Round 8 Update Well before i go
on i would like to thank Karen Ross, Donna Amphlett, Chris Davis,
Danielle O'Neill and Kylee Brunning
for everything they did to contribute to our pie night we had with the
under 11's and a big thank you to Gary Wilson
for taking training and being our guest speaker for the night. he told
me he had awesome night and and would gladly be
of any assistance whenever needed also to say he wishes the boys the
very best for rest of the year. Well today I
honestly thought that today's game was going to be our toughest game for
the year, starting with 2 phone calls and 1
defiant not playing to start on paper with 17 and to start with 15 made
it pretty hard.
Our late comers turned up by
the 2nd quarter but our boys especially our backline fought really hard
with Tyrone, Zac(attack) and Mitchell playing
some great football. Tristan B, Bailey, Riley and Tyren played some
awesome footy with their run and support out of the
middle. Nathan P, James and Jasper also provided some great team morale
and endeavor.
Ashton today we'll they couldn't
stop him and whenever when the ump pulled him up for too far he just
didn't care and kept running (he was gone). I think today
he just wanted to show how good he can actually play and he did
..Tristan O, Cooper and Connor also today really showed
how they can play under extreme pressure, but some of the silly things
that happened today my heart really went out to
the boys and they just kept trying and trying and once again a great and
courageous effort ...well done and thank
you....... Round 9 Update
Northvale vs. Beaumaris....well I don't think anything went our way
today. we had (Abby) our first girl umpire and her 2nd game as umpire.
We didn't really have any decisions go our way but with Adrian Fisher
(her mentor) on the ground helping .They
did a tremendous job. Tristan B today just couldn't hit the sweet spot
every time he went for a second bounce, Nicolas
was shattered every time he laid a bump and was called in the back.. but
still managed to kick 2 goals. Tyren tried his
heart out but was a bit stiff to not get a free in the goal square.
James just couldn't get free every time his jumper
was tugged every time...but on a positive note Ruley had a great game in
the backline almost playing kick to kick with
the opposition.
Mitchell had ripper as well in the backline thanks to Lindsey his dad
as his mentor. Zac "attack" made sure today that all the goal posts were
definitely hard in the ground, Jasper showed everyone how good at river
dance he is, Tristan O not only did he want to give all of the
opposition the "Twist of Fate" but made sure all their boots were
dirty and of course Ashton well stood up next to the biggest boy and on
the ground and told him how big he really
is. Luc, Justin and Cooper got themselves involved and got a taste of
the footy.
Bailey also showed not only us (coaching
staff) but all the mums and dads (with his arms out) were is my free
kick..... despite the outcome we all had a good
day and had plenty of laughs.......
Round 10 Update Northvale vs.
Prahran blue...Having old Maurie as umpire today was great and to have
him come in the rooms before the game and talk to all the boys gave them
plenty of encouragement and a smile to some of the parents too who have
met Maurie before.
Today we couldn't do much more than attack the ball at all costs and
that's what we did .Prahran had some good run out of the middle but were
just to good .Mitch, Ruley, Zac, Ashton, Tristan O and Nathan W did a
really good job down back as to Bailey, Nicolas, James, Riley and
Tristan B opened up our centre line and created good run out of the
middle but their defense was just to tall and quick.
Nicolas then kicked our only goal for the day and had Luc, Jasper,
Cooper and Connor presented up forward but couldn't quite convert and
kept trying though. Tyren stood out today trying his best
to crash through packs. another great effort and well done .....
