Round 1 Update

Hello all,

Well what a great way to start the season!

In a fantastic 4 quarter performance we were able to defeat a good team in Ajax at their ground, a brilliant effort considering we had 5 players unavailable!!

NORTHVALE 9.13.67 defeated AJAX 4.9.33

Goal Scorers;
S.Brittain 3
J.Murdock, J.Winn, T.Ross 2.

Best Players;
Jake, Trent, Cam, Simo, Jeremy, Louis, Aaron, Bryce. B, Brandon, Jacob.

We got off to the perfect start in the 1st quarter when Simo kicked a fantastic running goal. Although they were kicking with the wind we dominated the play but unfortunately let them get a couple of easy goals toward the end of the quarter to take the lead.

Our 2nd quarter was awesome and if we had kicked straight we would have kicked about 8 goals. Trent was dominating in the ruck and with help from Simo and Cam we were getting great opportunities in our forward line.

The 3rd quarter was where we won the game by outscoring them into the wind. This was where our running and possession game was at its best, and who'll forget Jezza running and bouncing the ball up the outer wing! Our half back line was unpassable and continually held off an attacking Ajax.

The last quarter saw even scores by both teams and a great win by the mighty VALES.

It was great to see the Northvale song sung with much gusto, and to see all the new players get drenched in the middle of the circle. Well done to Nick, Mahin, Grant, Jordan and Jezza on great first games. I think most of you were nervous before the game but be proud that you all made a great contribution to the teams victory!

Round 2 Update

Hello all,

Terrible conditions greeted our great side on Sunday for our big game against East Brighton, a side that has in the past had good results against us. We had good reason to perform well because it was Trent's 50th game, and we asked the boys for a big effort to get over the line for Trent.

In the first quarter we had slight advantage of the cyclone to our end and the boys went out and performed brilliantly, although we didn't get a goal till the end of the quarter. Nonetheless we held a slight 12 point lead. The second quarter was our best and we managed to kick 2 goals to the members end while keeping them goalless with the cyclone. To this stage Trent and Louis had played blinders of first halves, with an even contribution from the rest of the team.

The second half saw us again dominate on the ground with our ruthless tackling, shepherding and helping out teammates. It was a brilliant display by our team, one that we should all be proud of.

We could have awarded the ANZAC medal to a number of players but through his efforts in his best game for the club, JACOB MURDOCK was awarded the medal. I hope this motivates Jacob for a sensational season now he has set the level at which he wants to play.

We have no rest though as this week we have a game against another good side in St. Peters away. I hope the boys don't take for granted what has got them there 2 wins so far, and remember the year has only just begun.

Thanks to all parents that helped out. See you all Thursday.

Tim.

Round 3 Update

Hello all,
A fast, fit and tough St Peters team greeted us today when we traveled out to Centenary Park. The first half was our worst effort of the season as St Peters piled on 10 goals to our 0. We lost control of our game plan and were second to the ball.

The mighty Vales though fought hard and were back to there best in the second half despite still being outscored by 4 goals. A terrific performance was put on by all the players and showed that come later in the year we will be able to mix it with the better sides in the competition.

FINAL SCORES
Northvale 0.3.3
St Peters 14.11.95

Best players: Nick, Trent, Lachy, Jake, Louis, Thomas, Aaron.

The great thing about footy is we get to have another crack next week, so i expect all players at training on Thursday and look forward to a 4 quarter performance next week. Thanks to all parents for helping out and for coming to watch the big game.

Don't forget Thursday all players will be getting their "NORTHVALE HOODIES".

Round 4 Update

Beautiful conditions greeted us in our round 4 home game against beaumaris last Sunday. After a poor performance in round 3 we were keen to get the boys to start well against a very good opposition.

The boys played a great first 3 quarters, and fought hard and tough to show Beauy that they would get no easy kicks or goals. We were lead well by a great backline and some excellent contributions from our 2 new players Justyce and little Tim.

Unfortunately Beauy were able to kick 6 goals in the last quarter to run out comfortable winners 11.11.77 to our 0.2.2.

Best players for us were Tommy, Louis, Trent, LJ, Sammy and BJ.
We have another tough game against Murrumbeena this week, so we'll train hard on Thursday and have a real crack on Sunday.

Don't forget the trivia night next Friday 22nd May.

Thanks again,
Tim

Round 5 Update

Hello all.

We came up against Murrumbeena in round 5, the top of the ladder team.

Before the game we tried to reinforce our game plan to the boys, to keep possession of the ball and try to move the ball from end to end. I thought the boys did this very well in patches and kept the pressure on a very good team to only trail by 5 goals at half time. LJ had had his best half of the year, and Jacob and Lachy had moved around well at half forward.

I was actually very confident at half time and told the boys to keep up the hard work and maximize our time with the ball, and when Can kicked a ripper goal to start the second half i thought the upset of the season was on hand. Unfortunately that was our last goal for the game and an excellent team effort by the opposition saw them kick away. They are a very good side.

We should be proud of our first 2 and a half quarters though, and know with more play like we had done until then will see us win more games.

Final scores.
Northvale
2.1.13
M'Beena
20.10.130

Goals.
Trent, Cam.
Best players.
Lachy, LJ, Jake, Mick, Nick, Trent.

We have an important game this week against Mordialloc Braeside who are below us on the ladder but have done better against some of the better teams than we have, so we will have to play at our best to beat them.

See you all at training.
Tim

p.s Anyone that is planning on coming to the trivia night this Friday let me know asap so we can confirm numbers. It will be a great night so hope you can all make it. $10 per head, drinks at bar prices, byo nibbles. Great chance to catch up with other parents.

Round 6 Update

A big game again presented itself as we took on Mordi-Brae last weekend at home.

I must say i was hopefull of a strong result for the boys but things didn't turn out our way. Mordi had picked up a few new players since we last met and they opened the game strongly and at half time had built a strong lead over the mighty Vales. As always though we were fighting strongly but couldn't seem to get any flow to our game and failed to get many opportunities to score.

As usual though the boys fought harder in the second half and managed to stay with Mordi and not fall any further behind. Jake was playing a blinder in the back line, Trent started to take over around the ground, Cam was his usual brilliant self, and Matty and Brice. A were taking marks in the forward line.

In the end though we couldn't quite capitalise in the forward line from our many opportunities in the second half. We need to realise we have to play full 4 quarter efforts against stronger teams if we are to stay in touch and come through with the victory we deserve.

Final score.

NORTHVALE 3.0.18
MORDI 8.19.67

Goals; Trent 2, Jacob 1
Best players; Jake, Cam, Trent, BJ, Timmy, Mahin

Another big test awaits this Sunday with East Malvern away.

Round 10 Update

In the return match against St Peters i thought before the game we
were a chance to improve significantly on our first encounter. But we
had 6 withdrawals before the game and bought in 4 under 11's.

We decided before the game to kick with the wind in the first quarter
to try to surprise with a few early goals but only managed 1. I
thought we were playing ok, but they scored a goal also. The second
quarter saw them kick 2 unanswered goals to have a lead at half time.
We had battled well in the second, Louis and Brandon were on fire, as
well as Jezza, Matty Wilson, Michael, Trent and Joel. The third
quarter was again good for us, we this time kicked 2 unanswered goals
to lead by 3 points at the last change. All boys had been awesome to
date, Trent was working as hard as ever, the backline led by Tommy and
BJ had withstood many forward thrusts by St Peters, and Little Timmy,
Bryce A, Mahin and Jacob started to have big impacts on the game. At 3
quarter time i told the boys to play our game, to run and run, and
then run some more. Jake was asked for a big effort, as was Jezza, and
our forward line had an average age of about 11! The quarter started
slowly with St P's having the ball in attack for most of the time.
Eventually they had to kick a goal and they did to get back in front.
We quickly replied through a great effort from Trent to snatch back
the lead. I checked with the time keepers and there was still 4
minutes left, could we hold on?? They again attacked and a great goal
was kicked to put St P's back in front, i thought no way can we kick
another goal up hill into the breeze. After a quick centre break we
got the ball to our forward line and a stray kick ended up with Trent
who booted the ball forward and the great man Nicko was there to put
the ball through. In front again and i knew we still had 75 seconds to
try to stop them from goaling. They got the break away but we were
lucky enough to get the ball over the boundary and then the siren
rang. I rate it as the best win we've had as a team, down on players
and against a team that had beaten us by over 100 points earlier in
the year.

A big thanks to Joel, Dylan, Jake and Matty from the under 11's for
filling, you're welcome any time!!!

Also congratulations to Nicko and Mahin for kicking there first goals
for the club.

Next training is on Thursday 9th July at 5.00pm. Enjoy your school
holidays boys, you deserve it.

Round 11 Update

A big game faced last Sunday as Murrumbeena came out to play us at our
home ground. We were hopeful of a better display by the Vales than
when we played them earlier in the year.

However that was not evident early after a fast running nd highly
skilled Murrumbeena smashed us with 6 unanswered goals in the first
quarter. It wasn't so much the score that disappointed us but rather
the way we let the opposition play that worried us the most. Afew of
the boys including Mahin, Bryce B, and Trent had tried their hardest.

The following 3 quarters was a much better effort from the Vales as we stepped up our game and started getting a bit of the ball and also
applying much more pressure to the opposition. Jezza, Nicko, Jacob,
Trent and Jake played great games, with Jake kicking our only goal.

Congratulations to Jacob and Cam on achieving the milestone of 50
games. Both of you are terrific players and wanted team members, and
we hope you have a great future at our club. Well done to Murrembeena
too, they ae a tall, fast team that will no doubt play off in the
grand final.

Final scores...

Northvale 1.0.6
Murrembeena 14.14.98.

Goal Jake Winn
Best Jacob, Jake, Trent, Nicko, Jezza and Mahin.
