Mid Year Update

From The Coach:

Hi & Welcome to All Parents & Players,

We look set to have a great year with player numbers coming on well and an abundance of enthusiasm at training during our pre-season sessions. The boys are quite excited by the fact that tackling is now on the menu and that they will also have a ladder and finals to aim for.

For those of you that don’t know me as yet I am looking forward to meeting you for a chat. I live locally and assist with the Northvale Auskick on Saturday mornings(9.30am).,for 5-12yr olds. Having played and watched a lot of football over the years I can honestly say that I am just as excited to coach now as what I was in playing my first U/9’s game for Northvale back in 1977 ! I have Level 1 Accreditation with AFL Victoria and a working with children permit.

I do hope that this year is a great one not only for our team but for the club as a whole and that we can build a successful U/11’s side that will bring enjoyment and fun to both players and their families. One matter that does require urgent attention is the 2 vacancies that need to be filled- U/11’s TEAM MANAGER….and Match Day TRAINER, ideally someone who has done a first-aid course. Matt Cendamo has kindly volunteered to be our RUNNER on match days. Please feel free to contact me in person or via email/phone if interested or to discuss any matters relating to the team.

Hope to see you all at training on Wed Night 5-6pm and don’t forget that Home & Away shorts will be sold at the club at a cost of $10 a pair that night.

Gerard De Filippis

Hi All, round 1 has finally come and gone and the season proper is under way. Jumper Presentation night was a great success.

As most of you know we took on Emmaus Falcons away on Sunday 19/4 and although it was a loss there were many positives to come from the game. We went in without a ruck and lost our FF to injury in the first few minutes. We were up against a side that had been tackling in 2008 and had some very tall players in key positions but despite this we battled well and can be proud of the boys, nice goal by Matt Wilson and great games from Braden, Dylan as captain, Joel, Jon, Dale, Alex & Nicholas in his first game. We held Emmaus 1.1 to 1.1 in the second Qtr and it was a great team effort. We now know where our strengths and weaknesses are and we will work on this at training this Wednesday. On Sunday we play Caulfield U11’s at Wellington reserve 11.15am in front of our home crowd and we aim to make them proud…the ANZAC medal will be awarded to the player adjudged Best on Ground (B.O.G).

Thanks to all for your support….Gerard De Filippis-Coach U11’s.

Congratulations are in order to Northvale U11’s...

HARD WORK in cold ,wet & blustery conditions produced a memorable win to commemorate ANZAC day and celebrate Dylan Duffields 50th game. The backline worked tirelessly to repel any attacks and the forward line created chances with pressure in our FWD 50m arc, the centre was outstanding with Big Nick Giannetakis rising to the occasion and winning the inaugural Anzac medal in his first game, other best players were Matt Wilson, (BOG), Jake McEwan and Joel were sensational in the guts and Braden at CHB looks at home while Dylan was providing a target up forward in his 50th. Every single player should be as proud of their efforts as I am, see you all at training 5pm Wed nite.

GOALS: Dylan-1,Jake McEwan-1,Matt Wilson-1-Team effort. A special mention goes to James, Tristan & Tyren...the U9 boys who played with us and did a mighty job as well. We play Highett away next week in a tougher assignment but now we know how to win ...lets keep doing it...Thanks boys.

Thanks to the support staff for braving the elements on the boundary line and a big clap to our supporters, it really does mean a lot to the boys when they score in front of our packed grandstand, a great Sunday night was held at the clubrooms with fantastic numbers....Go Northvale -3 wins !

Round 3 Update

Hi All, A nice sunny day greeted us when we rolled up to play Highett F.C at Moorabbin. We got off to a magnificent start kicking the first 3 goals of the match ,Dylan snared 2 at FF and Joel snapped one as well, there were also other opportunities., at Qtr time we were 20pts to 6 and confidence was sky high, we were running hard all over the ground and in numbers, we backed up, the teamwork was great and we probably ran out of puff in the 2nd qtr to be outscored 3 goals to 0 so it was only a 6pt ball game at half time.

Unfortunately we probably got a little tired as the game went on and though we battled hard and had a few shots at goal we could not score majors in the 3rd and 4th qtr, their big guys, (and there were a few), were just too strong and tall towards the end. However we did learn some things, that we can match it with a good team and that our running can become a weapon if used well ,once the ball hit the ground we moved it on fast.

There were some standout players and all did well as we rotated positions and used the bench to give all a go, The following boys did well. J. PAERAU-took quite a few great marks and then went into the centre, J. HUGHES, , A. WHELAN-both guys were fantastic back pockets, J. CENDAMO-lively in the centre, ran all day and a nice goal, N. GIOULEKAS- becoming quite a player and has a good footy brain,, L. RICH- great when he took on the big job at Full back, special mention also to Dylan with 2 fine goals and Matt Wilson for his hard work in the fwd 50m,Liam Halket also did some great things at HB and Kyle is improving with every game.

Welcome to Dominic Baldan who had a fine first up game as well. This weeks training we will work on Running and endurance and also some marking as we dropped a few on a still sunny day !

The guys in the centre need to work on their talking and we need to practice kick-outs from full back. Thanks guys for trying all day, back at home this week in what appears to be a hard but by no means unwinnable game !

Round 4 Update

Hi to all at Northvale,

We took on a very good side in the 5th placed ORMOND U11 Colts on a sunny day with a slight breeze to the goals at the Wellington Reserve clubrooms end. Similar to last week we got off to a dream start but this time we carried on until half time, it was probably our best first half effort for this year so far as we held Ormond goalless (1 pt) and also kicked 5.5 ourselves. We gave our supporters something to cheer about as Nicholas snapped a beauty from a tight angle to make it 2 for the day, Liam snuck down for a nice goal and Dylan kicked one as well. Congrats also to Dominic Baldan who is getting better and also scored a goal.

The backline superbly led by Braden, our general at Full Back did not give them a sniff in that first half, the centre worked well with Joel running hard all day, shepherding, yelling encouragement and doing the 1 percenter's that help the team, teamwork got us to that point, we ran in numbers and skills were a lot better than last week. We let ourselves down in the second half as Ormond stormed back and with a goal after the ¾ time siren were only 8pts behind…loose players in our defence cost us and we could not get numbers to every contest due to our hard running earlier, although we battled to the last minute in the final qtr we were 5.5 apiece and with less than 30 seconds remaining we let slip a game we had in our keeping by 6pts,there were many undisciplined errors ,high tackles, push in the backs, jumper pulling etc until the opposition got what they wanted……1 goal !

But we can hold our heads up high that we matched it with a great side on a dry day and we can only get BETTER-so full credit to all the boys !!! We play Murrumbeena away next week and we must all remember that we ARE capable of winning games…so please guys, practice at home at school at an oval even watching footy with the ball in your hands….see you all at training wed 5pm.

Best Players: Braden & Joel were magnificent all day, Dale, Jacob, Riewoldt, Nicholas, Matt Wilson, Liam, Dylan. Goals:Nicholas-2, Dominic-1,Dylan-1,Liam-1.

Also thanks to the people that put up the decorations and organized the chocs for Mothers Day….a special THANKS also to all the MUMS out there that do a great job with their kids and make my task a lot easier…each and everyone of them are great boys and that is full credit to their parents. Thanks again.

Gerard De Filippis  U11’s Coach-Northvale JFC

Hi all, we took on Murrumbeena U11s at their very small Ground on Kangaroo Rd, weather was ok with a wind blowing across the ground. It was a very tight first half and although we had it in our forward line for long periods we could not kick goals however we were kept in the game by our superb backline which has done some great jobs this year holding good sides to low scores, in fact we held the “Beenas” to only 2 goals until half time. Jake was having a ball in the centre with Joel right behind him every step, they worked well together with great support from Dale and Alex, Big Nick did his best in the ruck to help them out. Sadly we lost a good player early on in Nicholas who is probably sporting a nice shiner on his cheekbone, that’s what happens when you put your body on the line for your team mates.

After half time we picked up the tempo and had it in our fwd 50 for awhile until the hard work paid off when Dylan kicked from a set shot a long way out allowing for the wind. Matt, Jacob  & Jon were doing well  in the backline led by Braden at FB. We were great at keeping the ball in our 50 from their kick outs with Cameron, Jake Martin & Safin providing great pressure in the forward line and really confusing their full back. After a rev up at ¾ time, the boys cam out inspired and although the beena's got the first from a free kick we controlled the next few bounces and after some near misses Joel and Jake snapped truly to bring the margin back to 9pts,the game became quite physical as both sides went hard at the ball but it was not be as Murrumbeena kicked the last 2 to record a 21pt win on their home turf. Score M’Beena 6.6 42 to Northvale 3.3 21.

Goal Kickers: J. CENDAMO, J. McEWAN, D. DUFFIELD
Best Players: J. McEWAN, J. CENDAMO, D. NIKOLOFF, M. WILSON, J. PAERAU, D. DUFFIELD

This week we face a tough test as we face our arch rivals Waverley park on our turf and we really need to play man to man and show our supporters the true Northvale spirit we have shown so far this year.

We will have a great night at training on Wed as the conditions look to be perfect for a mini match….boys, please ensure you all bring or have your mouthguards with you. Thanks again for all your efforts.

Gerard De Filippis  U11’s Coach-Northvale JFC

Hi All,

Today we took on our arch rival ,Waverley Park at Wellington reserve on a warm & breezy autumn day of 20deg. For a side sitting 2nd they are not short on players or ruck men and we were in no doubt this would be a tough test to show us where we are at. The backline was kept busy early as the Hawks kicked with the wind and 2 goals resulted from snapshots however it was evident early that Matt Wilson's switch from CHF to Full Back was paying off, the whole backline worked hard in the “dust” to keep the pressure on.

After holding them to 2 goals in the 1st we went forward a few times without reward, Big Nick was rucking well and Joel, Jon & Jake were swooping on everything whilst Alex was at the bottom of every pack, after all that hard work we got to halftime with a score line of 5.5 to 0,a few weeks ago we enjoyed a similar score line but this time we were zip.! We knew we had our work cut out but at no stage did this TEAM give up, in fact we pushed numbers into defense every time Waverley looked like scoring as well as trapping it in our 50m FWD area, some great things I saw….Cam taking a great mark at CHF and looking for Dylan with a long kick….Goal!, Jake Martin underneath the packs and getting a few handballs and the odd kick out and Kyle's   long chase of an opponent until he caught his jumper and earned a free kick for the vales.

It was these 1%ers that helped us win the qtr and outscore Waverley 1 to 0. The boys were as pumped at ¾ qtr time as I was to see such an effort and we knew they would come hard at us as they always scored 65-70pts in all their wins this season but with teamwork and pride the whole team ensured that Northvale gave as good as it got, the 6.9-1.0 score line did not truly reflect how hard our young team worked to keep a side that will probably play off in the grand final to 6 goals. A Fantastic 2nd half effort of 1-1.Our Backline deserves 10/10 for determination.

We may have some younger and smaller boys but their hearts are all the same size-HUGE !!! This week we take on a side unknown to us… Mordialloc –Braeside away, mums, dads etc…please get along to support the boys and make some noise as it makes all the difference when you are away. Be proud of your efforts today Northvale….we are not faraway from another win !

GOALS:-Dylan 1

BEST:-Matt, Alex, Joel, Big Nick, Jake Mc, Kevin, Braden, Jacob.

PS: There will be a mid-season break after Rnd. 7 due to Queens B’day Long Weekend. Thanks again for everyone's efforts.

*Congratulations also to Nicholas Gioulekas who wins the Leadership Group training award after coming back into train and play after a heavy knock to the cheekbone resulting in a shiner & Xrays ! These great weekly medallions are kindly supplied by the Assistant Coach Jason Baldan who does some great things with our 4 leaders on training nights.

Round 7 Update

Hi all,

It is with much pride that I write the Match Report for our Rnd 7 Encounter away V Mordialloc-Braeside, a nice still day once the fog cleared away. Things didn’t look promising at the start as we only had 1 on the bench and the opposition who as usual had some great talls, got away to 1.4 before we even got into our 50m….but once we did ,our running brigade took over and we hit back with one to Dylan and a nice snap to Snake to lead the qtr by 2pts.

In the 2nd qtr we continued to move the ball well and won most of the centre bounces, Jake and Dylan again in the goal scorers with Joel and Big Nick starring as usual and getting plenty of it ,our ruckman was at the bottom of many a pack. Our defence was holding well conceding only 1 goal and giving us a handy lead at half time.

We made a few positional changes to give guys a rest and the boys could smell a victory in the air. We came out in the third and played one of our best qtrs for the year with Safin going well and kicking a long goal from CHF which rolled through, Jake and Dylan again putting majors on the board with persistence and the teamwork in the fwd 50 was a joy to watch, the talk and encouragement was exceptional right through the game.

Our defence was well served with Dale & Jacob outplaying their taller opponents, matt holding up at full back and Jonathon did a great job on shutting down  their best fwd. The last qtr saw a few back men go fwd & vice versa with Liiban in the ruck and Nicholas as rover, their was some worry as they got the first bringing the margin to 18pts, congrats to our new player Liiban on a great game and his first goal for the vales which saw the margin restored to 4 goals.

Our new CHF capped off the last qtr with 2 wonderful goals and Northvale went on to record a memorable away victory by 31pts. NORTHVALE 10.6-66 dftd Mordialloc-Braeside 4.11. Every player should be congratulated as this team starts to show great results through teamwork and hard work on the training track. NEXT game is a big one V St.Bedes Mentone at home for Alex Riewoldts 50th,he will captain the side and have a big game.

GOALS: Dylan 3 (equal 3rd in our division on 9 goals ) Snake 3,Braden 2, Safin 1, Liiban 1.

BEST: Snake, Big Nick, Joel ,Dylan, Braden, Safin. ,Jon, Alex, Dale and a great first game to Libaan

Our leadership group medal was awarded to Dale who is a fearless player with great skills, his smothering and tackling are a joy to watch, see you all at training tonight for fun & games as we have no game this week.

Thanks again for your efforts boys…now keep going, lets make it 2 in a row !. Thanks also to the team behind the team …Pas, Colin, Jason, Matt, Madeleine….none of this would be possible without their help

Gerard De Filippis  U11’s Coach-Northvale JFC

Round 8 Update

Hi All,
Round 8 has come and gone and it was a triumphant day for our boys who took on St.Bedes Mentone at Wellington reserve on a perfect day for football with no breeze at all. The big occasion was Alex Whelan's 50th game (aka Riewoldt) and the boys were keen to win it for him as they did for Dylans 50th in R.2. The first quarter was a forgettable one where there was much fumbling and poor disposal ,the break saw us at 0 to 1.1

Stern words were the spark that fired the boys up and they set up a match winning 2nd qtr performance led by Joel out of the centre who finished with 2 goals for the day ,Dale was magnificent in the back pocket tackling opponents bigger than him and the ever reliable Matt Wilson started many attacks enabling us to slam on 3.4 to 0, a complete reversal of the first term as we peppered the goals to the clubroom end leaving St.Bedes stunned, however the job was only half done.

Special mention goes to Costa who kicked a goal in his first game courtesy of a spilled ball from a superb tackle by Nicholas who was using his pace well. The boys continued their hard work in the 3rd qtr outscoring their opponents 2 to 1,the highlight being Jake Martin crumbing a loose ball and snapping truly for his first goal as well, he’s probably still smiling now ! Braden ,playing as a loose defender snuck forward and scored a nice goal on the run. There was plenty of help from Safin in the backline who took a tall forward and stopped him well, out marking him 2,3 times.

Snake ran hard as usual and Riewoldt was in everything as he did hid best to ensure his 50th would be a memorable one, all the boys tried there hardest to ensure the result was red & white. The last qtr was enjoyable to watch as the defense was under lots of fire but held strong from a desperate St.bedes, Dylan kicked his 2nd of the day and is now on 11, he is showing signs of being a great full forward for years to come. Dominic, Liiban ,Jacob and Big Nick also tried their hearts out all day as did the whole team and they need to be congratulated as they have now won 2 in a row to go 6th on the ladder from 12 teams….NORTHVALE 7.7.49 dftd St.Bedes Mentone 4.5.29 and we are going for a hatrick V Prahran away this Sunday- a tough ask ! In a nice touch, the song was sung on the ground and Riewoldt was chaired off the ground to the applause of our proud supporters, the mayhem continued inside with the water bottles being used for showers.

All in all it was a great day as the U 13s & 14s also had good wins and we were all back at the rooms to celebrate later that evening and enjoy hamburgers cooked by the President himself !

Best Players were Joel Cendamo, Dale Nikoloff, Matt Wilson, Braden Lee, Riewoldt ,Safin, Costa, Nicholas & Jonathan.

Round 9 Update

Hi All,

Welcome to the match report for Rnd 9,  a nice still overcast day greeted us at the old Prahran VFA ground, quite a large oval with a poor surface. The boys were looking to win their 3rd match in a row however the Prahran boys were keen to win their first game at home.

A tight first quarter followed with our backline under lots of pressure keeping Matt our runner ever busy and Matt Wilson at full Back even busier. We held them to 2 goals but were unable to score ourselves, there were many changes at qtr time as we had a record 6 on the bench with new players James who went straight into the ruck and Ibrahim who also went into the middle on the ball. They gave us plenty of drive in the second qtr and we managed 3 shots at the big sticks with a nice running goal through persistence by Jon Paerau to have the scores at 3.1 to 1.2 at the long break.

The second half saw desperation come into it and Prahran blue were just hungrier whereas we left too much to too few ! After 2 wins we thought that we could just roll up and take the points, we underestimated the oppositions hunger.

After kicking 2 unanswered goals in the 3rd qtr we tried one last effort in the last and made lots of changes ,Joel had run hard all day and refused to come off even after a heavy knock, Dale was battling hard in the pocket with good support from Braden and although our speedy centre man Snake bagged a goal it was not enough to stop Prahran Blue 6.3.39 beating Northvale 2.3.15.

GOALS: J.Paerau 1, Snake 1

BEST: M.Wilson, J.Cendamo, J.McEwan, D.Nikoloff, B.Lee, Ibrahim, Jon Paerau, Sean Chung, Riewoldt.

Round 10 Update

Hi all,

We all knew we were in for a task today as we took on the high scoring St.Kilda Black at home on a cold windy day. With some kids away on school holidays we had a depleted backline and ruck and early in the game we lost Ibrahim to an arm injury so there was no bench as opposed to the week before with 6 ! The saints meant business and they got off to a 3.2 to 0 first quarter despite our boys playing tight hard football.

We saw the way a good team share the ball around, their disposal was great and they didn’t drop many marks ,our turnovers were punished with goals. Liiban was doing plenty of hard work in the centre and backline and was well supported by Joel and Snake. Sean was in and under every pack and Nicholas helped out everywhere bar full-fwd. Some motivational words at qtr time produced a much better qtr that saw Jake snag a goal and we kept them to 2,I think all day they kicked goals towards the end of qtrs as their pressure and running wore us down.

At half time we knew that our team was not going to go out and get walked over 100-0,we would try until the end. Lack of bench hurt our running and rotations but the boys did well to hold the Saints to 11 goals for the day as well as kick 3 themselves courtesy of Snake and a beautiful goal by Riewoldt that gave our supporters something to cheer about, but the saints…well they are a team which have an average winning margin of 10goals plus and we shouldn’t be discouraged as its our first hiccup since Rnd.1 to Emmaus.

We take on Sth.Melb after the break away in what appears to be a winnable game ,8th v 9th away. See you all at training on 8th July.

Goals: Snake 2, Riewoldt 1.

Best: L. TOG-DHEER, J. CENDAMO, J. McEWAN, A. WHELAN, S. CHUNG, N. GIOULEKAS,SAFIN CHOUDHURY,LOCHLAN McKAY,DOMINIC BALDAN.

On another note I was privy to witness one of the best matches I have seen at Northvale and had a keener interest as 4 of our boys…Matt, Snake, Joel & Dylan played V St.Peters U13s with the odds stacked against us but with big Trent on the prowl anything was possible, A 2 pt victory in a dour low scoring affair of 35-33 was a joy to watch as it was a turnaround from a previous 100pt loss and is a good lesson to our U11s team that all is possible. Our boys gave a good account of themselves and earnt their spot in the circle when the song was sung…a special rap goes to Tim for some brilliant coaching in the last qtr ,his 3qtr time speech had me looking for my boots and mouthguard.

Thanks to all the supporters who stayed around to enjoy a memorable win and come back to the clubrooms that night. Thanks again.

Round 11 Update

Hi All,

After the school holidays break we all rolled up on a fine windy day at the Albert Park Formula 1 area to take on South Melb Reds at home….Oval 11 in the end ! We had only 1 on the bench but a few players back and Sth Melb had a full contingent as they were pushing to make the finals. The first quarter was a tight tussle with the wind proving difficult to kick in to, the ball always finding its way to the clubrooms side.

The boys put Wednesday nights training into action with shepherding and talking being the highlights…Jake snapped a great goal and he and Joel were teaming up well as Big Nick won most of the tap outs. Liiban was busy in the backline and Braden back from QLD was solid in defence and across half back. We went to the break 1 goal up and S.melb were scoreless but had the wind 2nd qtr. The boys however had come to play and carried on where they left off, Matt Wilson denying them what chances they did have to score. Our stand-in runner Jason was kept  busy with messages and on field changes while I could only feel for our opposition with 6 on the bench ! We went in at half time not capitalizing on 2 misses but at 1.2.8 we strangely had control of the game.

At ½ time we reinforced the shepherding and talking and numbers at every contest and as we ran out for the 3rd qtr our supporters were quietly confident that an upset was on the cards. With our FF & FB moving up the ground we rested our midfield bar Joel and Jake and made a few changes, one of those was our new boy James Taylor who crumbed well and goaled truly to perhaps seal the match late In  the qtr. Jon Paerau was taking some great marks and his fair bump in front of the bench was gold. Riewoldt was reading the play well and beating both his opponents and Nicholas G was everywhere with his pace and stamina.

We asked the boys for a last effort as our lack of bench was going to hurt us and 2.3.15 was not exactly mammoth. The last qtr saw our defence under siege as sth Melb tried everything to at least score, Dylan had a great qtr across half back. In the end neither side scored but we had done enough to defeat them. Northvale 2.3.15 dftd Sth Melb Red 0.0.0….an strangely convincing 15pt win. This week we take on the mighty Emmaus…our nemesis from Rnd.1…a good test for our fearless boys !

GOALS: JakeSnake, James

BEST: JakeSnake, Jon, Joel, Braden, Riewoldt, Nicholas, Matt, Dylan,Sean ,Big Nick, Liiban and a nice goal to James !.

Round 12 Update

Hi All,

Sunday 19/7 we were back at our home ground chock full of confidence after our win on the road….the “Northvale Doctor” was blowing hard towards our bench and it was an acceptable 15deg. The Emmaus Falcons were our round 1 welcome with a 78-8 drubbing at Pinewood reserve but this was our turf and our defence was coming off a great game having not conceded a score last game.

With our fearless Full Back matt Wilson playing his 50th game for the club we ran through the banner to the cheers of a decent crowd. We had a good game plan and 4 on the bench so all looked good. By the end of the first qtr we had continued on from last week denying Emmaus a score and apart from 1pt to us it was becoming the battle of the defences. The pressure and numbers at the contest were great and it was man on man as we played our boundary back and forth. Riewoldt was today's ball magnet and he assisted Joel who was his usual self despite almost missing due to an injured hand. Big Nick ran hard and was well supported by Liiban & James. Today was probably young Jake Martins best game for the year as he got to the bottom of packs and linked up with other guys.

We started the second qtr with the same commitment and the boys really wanted to win it for Matt as they tackled and bumped ,harassed & chased to deny Emmaus a score yet again…! At half time it was their first goalless half for the year however we had not scored either and led by only 2pts. After a break and a rev-up the game continued as per before ,Sean Chung took mark of the day and was getting plenty of it, Jon.P kept their star No.3 quiet, Matt Wilson was shifted into the centre to get some Fresh legs into our midfield, Jake had run hard all day ,our shepherding and running in numbers was exceptional as we played the boundary well….until a costly turnover saw Emmaus move the ball quickly until a lucky goal rolled through ,the Emmaus players cheered on. At ¾ time we knew that a goal by either side would win the game and we made some changes to try and effect a score. Dale and Jacob were holding the fort and tackling like there was no next week. Despite having a hurried shot at goal late in the qtr ,the very wind that had helped us the whole game now also denied us the sweetest victory as it pushed the ball wide.

The game finished a couple of minutes later with matt Wilson taking the mark at CHF as the siren went but too far out to score…today was not to be but it was a magnificent effort by the whole team and a fantastic game to watch for both sides alike, our supporters would have been very proud of us as I was, we are no longer easy beats and can match it with anyone, we have come a long way since Rnd 1 and this team is going places….i have no doubt of that ! You need only check Emmaus’ last 12 games to gauge the enormity of how close these fearless boys came to the upset of the year. We probably have built one of the best defences going round and our midfield runs hard all day, we just need to work on scoring more goals as we did mid year and we will play finals next year. This week we take on Caulfield away, whom we beat in Rnd 2 in the wet , its Joel Cendamo’s 50th and they will be again fired up to do it for Joely.

EMMAUS FALCONS 1.1. 7   dftd  Northvale  0.0.3.

 BEST PLAYERS : Riewoldt,Joel,Sean,Dale,Matt,jake Martin,Snake,Nicholas,Jacob,Braden,Jon.

Round 13 Update

Hi All,

We travelled to Koornang Park on a great day for footy to take on the Caulfield bears and it was Joel Cendamo’s 50th game. After presentation of the medallion the boys were as keen to win as against Emmaus and they ran through the banner on a mission. Also similar to last week the southerly was going towards the benches and so that was again our preferred wing for traffic. The first quarter was a closely fought out affair with Caulfield scoring first but then Jake ran forward for his trademark snap and equalled the scores. Sean Chung is becoming a nuggetty little wing/onballer and he was working well with Joel & Jake while our backline did its usual job of starving the opposition of chances ,at qtr time the scores were locked at 1.1.7 apiece and we made good use of our 4 interchange players. The second qtr was a tight tussle and Costa fresh on the ground marked and kicked to Nicholas who marked, steadied and goaled erasing his memory of the week before, the sign of a future champ is to forget last weeks loss and build towards today's win, however soon after a free tackle and undisciplined 20m penalty “gave” Caulfield the equalizer on a plate. Braden was playing off his man well and dale as usual was outplaying his opponents, aided by Riewoldt ,setting up many attacks.

At half time scores were 2.1.13 apiece ! After a break and a work over of the magnet board we played hard football in the 3 rd but they managed to snag a goal via a loose man deep in their  fwd line….however a great run by Riewoldt down the centre…to Joel …kick to Lachlan Rich who kicked into the square where Snake was waiting for the crumbs….nice goal !!! Dylan did a lot of heavy work at CHB well aided by Matt Wilson who had saved 2,3 goals already. The last qtr we really pumped the guys up do to do it for Joely and the team and we were a chance …it was 19-20 and we needed a goal ! To complete the fairytale Joel who was doing a lot of running marked on the HF line and from a fair way out kicked what was to be the sealer….the last 5 mins felt like an hour and was played in their fwd 50m,it was the best 5 mins of the year as we were under real pressure, Caulfield are an excellent running and marking team and they are 5th for a reason…time and time again….Riewoldt & Dale got us out of trouble, Matt was taking saving marks and Dylan, Braden, Jake, Joel were all superb….every Northvale player applied such pressure it was great to watch, Liiban took a great mark at CHB and Nicholas saved a certain goal with a perfect tackle….the siren went!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great win on the road to this mighty team…the celebrations were a pleasure to watch as Joel was chaired off, many of the parents enjoyed the game immensely as did I and took awhile to get the smile off my dial, the song was sung with gusto and with our last game V Highett at home we could yet displace Caulfield and rise to 5th spot only just missing the finals, incredibly the team has conceded only 4 goals in the last 3 games against 5th,2nd,6th placed teams….they are really finishing the year off on a high and 2010 bodes well for the new U12s .THANKS TO THE WHOLE 22 on SUNDAY who played in this gutsy & memorable win.

NORTHVALE 4.2.26 dftd Caulfield 3.3.21 by 5pts. GOALS: Snake 2,Nicholas 1 Joel 1    BEST: Riewoldt, Dale, Snake, Joel, Dylan, Matt, Nicholas, Sean, Braden, Costas….the whole 22 !!!.

PS: Unfortunately that afternoon I went to watch my beloved bombers go down to the less fancied Tigers by 5pts at the MCG….footy's a funny game ! Thanks to Dave Wilson for the great seats !

Round 14 Update

Hi All,

Sadly we have come to the final match report for 2009 however on a brighter note the boys finished the year on a high with their biggest win of the year….it was a typical match day ,about 15deg with a strong cold wind (the Northvale doctor) blowing towards our bench and playing havoc with the nice banner. The occasion was Braden Lee’s 50th game and lots of family and a fair crowd were gathered. As we ran out onto the ground I could see the boys had that glint in their eyes….today they would dictate terms…I reminded them of our last game against Highett and asked them to make a statement in the first qtr and what a qtr it was with Dylan & Jake bagging 2 each and going to 13  a piece for the year, Nicholas racked up close to 10 possies and with great work from Joel and Riewoldt we had a commanding 4.4.28 to 0.0.0 lead, we have become spoilt with our brilliant backline over the last few weeks conceding 4 goals in 4 games !!!.

The 2nd qtr was a tuff arm-wrestle as Highett tried to score with many position changes and we held them out time and again…matt Wilson was everywhere, dale was tuff at the ball and Dominic was getting plenty of it as well. At half time… no change to the score.

The 3rd qtr was to be the one that would clinch it and we broke the deadlock as Snake passed to Dylan who slammed home his 3rd to put the game beyond doubt, Braden was playing well in his 50th beating his opponent easily. Sean Chung was winning the ball and his disposal was spot-on, Big Nick, James & Liiban were having great qtrs as well. At ¾ time and at 5.4.34 to 0 we decided to swap the fwds & backs and have some fun for our last qtr of 2009, the backline held up well and Dylan got his 4th , the boys had plenty of time to take it all in and enjoy the win….they were becoming accustomed to hard tuff close-in football and this made the 40 pt win all that more special and convincing. A great team effort, the boys played for each other, they did it for Braden and for the crowd but above all they did for the Northvale U11s, a mighty team that got mightier with every game that passed….this team would have been a worthy finalist and we now know that next year we can go forward with confidence in our abilities and our team mates. At the time of writing we were likely to finish in 5th spot from 12 teams, a great effort ,and improvement in every game . Thanks again boys….Rnd 14 was another ripper !

NORTHVALE defeated Highett Bulldogs 6.5.41 to 0.0.1.

GOALS: Dylan 4, Snake 2

BEST: Snake, Dylan, Joel, Braden, Nicholas, Sean, Big Nick, Matt, Dominic, Dale….the whole team was sensational !

A great night was had back at the club on Sunday night and on Monday 3/8 there was a magnificent turnout for the Northvale Maccas night by all teams & Auskick, thanks to the boys in the U11s…close to the whole team turned up.

Still to come……………Break-up Function and Presentation day….then  Season 2009 wrap-up report….& that’s it !!!!
